Culture
Our
business practices and culture reflect our philosophy of sharing and
caring. In the same way we take care of our customers, we are deeply
aware of our relationship to the environment, our vendors and partners,
and our staff. We understand that the way we run our business has an
impact that ripples out far beyond our home town, Portland, Maine.
We take social responsibility very seriously, and do all we can to be
good community and world citizens. For example, we use recycled paper
in our take-out cups, gifts packages, business cards, and stationery.
We are committed to sustainable purchase practices. Whenever possible,
we buy from local, organic producers and seek out "fair trade" tea and
cocoa providers. We do our best to limit product and linen usage and
laundering without detracting from the customer experience. Above all,
we strive to always be honest and fair in all of our dealings with customers,
staff, and vendors.
Of course, our staff members are critical to the operational realization
of our cultural and philosophical goals. They are the face of our business.
They are the interface between our company and our customers. Where
possible, everyone learns each aspect of the business and is knowledgeable
in all areas. You can expect a warm greeting no matter who is just inside
the door when you come to visit. Everyone answers the phone and interacts
with customers at some level. While a tea server may not be a licensed
massage therapist, they are fully capable of explaining the differences
among our luxurious treatments. And your therapist will serve your chilled
chai or other beverage choice with the grace and warmth you would expect
in a teahouse. Soakology is not a place, it is an experience. We invite
you to get to know us and enjoy our delivery of relaxation and pampering
in a beautiful, peaceful setting staffed by caring professionals.
